This location is just east of the northbound exit to Avila Beach Rd. In the back part of the turnout, a large pile of pieces of the old highway can be found. I actually researched this location quite a bit for the project. The large cut here destroyed all of the old highway, and it was only after I interviewed several long time residents, and the late Alex Madonna that I was able to approximate the path of the old highway through here.
