Mission San Miguel Arcangel, founded in July of 1797 as a half-way stop between the extisting missions of San Luis Obispo, and San Antonio. The original 101 route, now called Mission Street runs directly in front of the mission on the west side of the road. The recent San Simeon Earthquake has caused extensive damage to the mission including, unfortunately the old chapel.
