The remains of the old bridge over the Salinas River. The original bridge along the 101 route over the Salinas river was built somewhere around the early 1900s. There was a massive flood in 1914 that wiped out a large section of the hridge. It was replaced. Another flood in 1938 took the bridge out again. When this bridge was replaced, they changed the 101 route to go under the railroad crossing going into the town of Soledad. The southbound bridge was added in 1962 to make it a 4 lane divided highway, and the town of Soledad was bypassed.

This sign is off the Northbound lanes at the south end of the bridge.
